Famous for its food and drink production, this little corner of England is not called the 'The Garden of England' for nothing. There is a wide range of country estates, gardens and castles to visit, with a history and heritage to rival most other places in the country. One notably place of interest is Penshurst Place, a manor house and gardens well known for its scenic views and definitely worth our visit.
Knole Park - a medieval deer park and vast estate, originally built as an archbishop’s palace. The showrooms depict Reynolds, Gainsborough and Van Dyck plus seventeenth century tapestries and furniture. The Gatehouse Tower, with spiral staircase afford wondeful views and beautiful gardens.
Emmetts Garden - an Edwardian Estate with exotic plants, best known for it's Spring colour. Best seen from April to May.
Penshurst Place - built in 1341, a superb medeival manor house with 11 acres of formal gardens to explore.Ightham Mote - a medieval moated manor house with lakes, orchard, flower borders and gloroius views. Best seen from May to August.
Staying in the heart of the "Garden of England" is the 4* Maidstone Great Danes Hotel, set in 26 acres of landscaped gardens and situated next door to the majestic and regal Leeds Castle.
