Shibden Hall and Folk Museum, family home of Anne Lister (BBC1’s Gentleman Jack) in Halifax, Yorkshire.


Trip Description

Shibden Hall Dating back to 1420 with an architecture which reflects an interesting and varied history. An adjacent 17th century barn, houses a carriage collection with courtyard workshop displays: Blacksmiths, Wheelwrights, Coopers, Apothecary, Saddlers, Brewhouse, Estate Workers Cottage, Basket Maker, Diary and Threshing Room.
Restricted access for wheelchair users to ground floor only, uneven cobbles to the outside & short walk from the coach drop off point.
It has been used has a filming location for the TV series 'Gentleman Jack.' Due to the size of some of the rooms, interior shots were filmed in recreated rooms in the studio. The 1992 film 'Wuthering Heights' has also been filmed here. Admission included. Cafe and shop on site.
Halifax Calderdale's largest town, with stunning Victorian architecture and strong industrial background. It is home to the unique Piece Hall, a Grade I listed Georgian cloth hall, Eureka!, a National Children's Museum & Halifax Minster, the final resting place of Anne Lister. There are a great many independent & high street shops, market, theatres, cafes, pubs and restaurants.
